How to Detox

I don't know about you, but with all the craziness in the world right now, I've been feeling pretty stressed. It would be great if my response to this was to go for a run or get some extra sleep, but instead I've been turning to unhealthy coping vices, like tubs of ice cream. (So many tubs!)  When a reader emailed to suggest a guest post about how to detox , it sounded like exactly what I need right now. How to Detox (Guest Article) Cleaning is an important aspect of my life, as I'm sure it is yours. I always believed that living in a clean environment greatly predetermines my optimal health. And by a clean environment, I mean a clean home to live in and a clean bed to sleep in, but much more than that I need a clean mind and body.  As a clean external environment is very rare to find nowadays, my internal cleansing has become an important part of my self-care routine as a proper support to my physical and mental health. My body is my temple. The...

How I Lost 8 Pounds Without Dieting or Exercising

How I Lost 8 Pounds Without Dieting or Exercising Today, I have the easiest weight loss tip ever to share with you. I've never been overweight, but now that I'm in my late 30s, the scale has been creeping up year after year and it has seemed impossible to drop even one pound and keep it off.  Our Alaskan cruise a few years ago really did me in - I jumped from 118 pounds to 124 and never lost an ounce. (Remember my blog post, Eating Our Way Through Alaska ? Yeah, I may have gotten carried away. I love meringue!) There wasn't much in my lifestyle to improve. We don't buy soda. I shop from the produce section more than anywhere else in the store and we eat home-cooked meals almost daily. Fad diets worked as a temporary solution, but the weight would quickly come right back. Lately, my scale has been hitting 130. 130! I haven't gotten any taller since weighing 118 a few years ago. (Wouldn't that be nice?)  My weight gain was unacceptable but I had no idea how ...

Foods That Help Depression

This is one of the most popular articles in my Self Improvement series . Scroll to the bottom for an  Anti-Depression Snack Mix recipe that combines multiple foods that help depression into a healthy, easy to keep on hand treat. Foods That Help Depression Longtime readers of this blog (hello, bloggy friends!) know I've struggled with depression on and off since I was a teenager. Funny enough, people who know me in real life usually have no idea. Ah, the things we share online. One of my New Year's resolutions was to improve my diet. Sayonara, sugar! Bye bye, Burger King! The intention behind this goal was to lose weight, and I have, but there was also an unexpected benefit. Did you know there is a link between food and depression ?  Healthy Food = Healthy Mood (surprise, surprise). Food and Depression Since reducing (not eliminating - I'm only human) the junk food in my life, I've had more energy and have not had even one day where I've felt the slight...

Reuzel: Grooming Tonic Industry Review

I'm looking out for you, my bloggy friends. At my last haircut, the hairdresser shared his favorite hair product of all time, REUZEL (which I'd never heard of), with me and I had enough sense to get the details to share with you. He didn't even have a bottle of it to sell me. It was a genuine, honest review. Also, are they still called hairdressers? Is this the equivalent of calling your flight attendant a stewardess? Stylist? Barber? Reuzel  Grooming Tonic Review You know those men who have the softest, most perfect hair and it seems so unfair because most men don't even care about their hair? (Or so they say.) I think this is their secret. While you're here, be sure to read my  funny haircut story . Geez, I'm awkward. The fact that I was brave enough to ask to take this photo at the salon is proof I love my blog readers. Never heard of it? That's probably because Reuzel Grooming Tonic is marketed toward men. From reading their endless 5-star reviews, men ...

Zenmed Reviews

What is Zenmed? The folks at Zenmed recently reached out to me and were extremely helpful in deciding which of their products were best for my specific skin concerns. They're especially popular with rosacea sufferers.  Here is what I told them and their reply: Now that I'm in my 30s, my biggest skin problem is dark spots and uneven tone. I just look kind of "blah", if you know what I mean. I also feel like the skin under my eyes is not quite as plump as it used to be, which I think makes me look tired. Although to be fair, I am usually pretty tired. Hooray for  idiopathic insomnia ! Our  L-Ascorbic Booster Serum  will be just right for you. I'll send that along with one of our cleansers, a moisturizer and our  glycolic booster  to slowly reveal the new, healthy layer underneath.   I checked out the L-Ascorbic Booster Serum details on the Zenmed site, which claimed to soften wrinkles, plump your skin, and minimize dark spots b...
