The Best Food in Savannah

How is pimento cheese not a thing in New Mexico ? We can add green chile to it! Sexy Nerd and I were fortunate to spend a day in Savannah recently. With such a limited amount of time for our first visit to the city, I made sure to research the best restaurants and local foods to eat. From brunch through dessert, I've done my homework (and my taste testing - being a travel and food blogger is such a rough job) so you don't have to risk a disappointing meal in Savannah. There's something here for every budget, including free samples of local favorites. No car = no problem, as you can walk to everywhere on this list from the North Historic District (near the Savannah River), which is also home to all of the must-see tourist stops in Savannah, including Forsyth Park, The Basilica of St. John the Baptist, and SCADstory. Fair warning though - I'm going to make Savannah foodies angry with this post! The Best Food in Savannah Leopold's Ice Cream Skip It. (Or, if you refuse...

15 Fun Things To Do in Hobart, Tasmania

After our 2-week Tasmania road trip , my plan is to retire in Hobart one day. There are so many fun things to do! Just call us Tasmaniacs. For the Hobart portion of our grand Australian adventure, we did not need a rental car. Other than an occasional Uber (the Hobart airport is much further away than we'd expected), we found Hobart to be a pleasantly walkable city, even in May. Remember kids, May in the USA = nice. May on the opposite side of the world = well, still pretty darn nice. Don't miss out on Tasmania when you visit Australia. Here is our complete guide to the best things to do in Hobart , plus a couple of places you can skip: Things to Do in Hobart I'll start with everyone's favorite, the food. Food is what travel is all about, isn't it? If I could go back in time, I'd shake my younger self by the shoulders and say, You're on Vacation!   Stop eating at McDonalds! If your fondest vacation memories are of the things you ate, you can't...

How to Fly to Australia (Without Losing Your Mind)

How long is the flight to Australia? Oh, not too long - just 16 hours (!) or so from LAX to Melbourne. Of course, few of us start in Los Angeles. Our journey took us from Albuquerque to LAX (5 hours because there were no nonstop options available), from LAX to Melbourne, and from Melbourne to Hobart (another hour or so, plus several hours to kill at the airport). By the time we arrived at our hotel, the fabulous Maylands Lodge in Hobart, we were understandably exhausted...and then my husband took me on a surprise, multi-hour hike. Uphill! Do I even need to say it was a surprise? Surely no sensible person would have agreed to strenuous activity after all that flying unless they didn't understand what they were getting into. Then again, after that much travel, is anyone still sensible? Can they understand anything? (Honestly, I think my Sexy Nerd just got lost and he wouldn't admit it.) I'd been dreading the long flight even before booking it. I tried to convince my t...
