Amerisleep AS3 Reviews

My Amerisleep AS3 Unboxing Video (Surprise, my voice is ridiculous!) If I can (just barely) do it, you can totally tackle a bed-in-a-box by yourself. Updated 10/15/22 Amerisleep's AS5 was recently featured as the 'Best Soft Mattress in a Box' by Good Housekeeping , with the panel of reviewers noting: Pressure relief for side sleepers Taller than other boxed mattresses Good customer service    Amerisleep Mattress Reviews  We've been happy Amerisleep customers since purchasing our first AS3 mattress more than 9 years ago. Now we also have an AS2 and an AS4 (the AS3 is still our favorite). Born with chronic insomnia  (even as a baby - my family insists I was a nightmare), the struggle to improve my sleep is my life. My husband, the overly-analytical mechanical engineer, was initially skeptical of a mail-order mattress, but he was quickly won over. 2012: Wine glass test, sans wine. I was fairly confident our brand-new mattress would pass with f

Doggie Day Job

I needed to access an old Qwest bill, but was having trouble setting up an online account. I selected the Online Chat option. The representative and I got off to a good start. Providing verification that I was indeed the account owner would be simple enough, right? I told the representative my name, account number, and billing zip code, as requested. A few minutes passed before receiving any reply. "To verify your identity, what is the answer to your secret account question?" Ummm...my what? It's a bit stupid tricky to answer a question that hasn't been asked. I inquired specifically what the secret account question was. Another pause. "If you cannot answer your secret account question, instructions for resetting your online password can be mailed to you." I asked again WHAT IS THE QUESTION?! I wrote that I was sure I could answer the question, if only I knew what it was. No response. I wrote a few common question/answer combinations that I thought it

Merry Xmas from Kitty and Sexy Nerd!

We decorated the chalkboard door. I made a batch of Joy the Baker's gingerbread marshmallows to take to Sexy Nerd's grandma's house. I was worried that the homemade marshmallows wouldn't come out of the dish, but...ta da!   (so yummy!) Sexy Nerd also baked up some dinner rolls and a baguette with herbs. He's fancy like that. My parents are spending Christmas with my family in Tucson and we're watching their dog for them. Britney will not let me take a photo of her. Look over here, Britney. Over here!! Biscuit understands how to take a good photo, but Pica is stubborn like you-know-who. Over here, Pica!  Hopeless. Merry Christmas!

Spring Cleaning - My Most Favorite Thing in the World (NOT!)

This is the built-in bookcase in our dining room. It's really not that bad, right?   Right?? If Pica wanders in much further, we may never see her again! The bookcase that my Sexy Nerd worked so hard on ( before pics here ) had become an easy place for us to stash homeless objects. It started innocently enough - a basket, a candle or two - but we were soon overwhelmed with junk. Step one of cleaning a bookcase is sorting through the junk, which always takes forever! Mostly because of things like this: Ummm, is there a reason we're keeping this little pot of dirt inside a glass? And what do these screws belong to? We do have a garage...kind of a better place for screws. And Biscuit ate the little plastic pieces out of the timer the last time it was plugged into the wall (seriously!) so there's no sense in keeping it. Sand from my trip to the Seychelles . Pretty, but it doesn't belong on the dining room bookcase. This picture is actually h

The Challenges of Life with a Beard

Long before Duck Dynasty turned the crazy mountain man-look mainstream, there was Biscuit. She will tell you that having a beard is not all it's cracked up to be. Sure, the ladies love it. But your confidence flies right out the window when you realize you've been strutting all afternoon with a leaf dangling from the matted mess, utterly oblivious. Things are especially rough when your mom and dad laugh at you and post your beard faux pas for all the internet to see. Though, some might argue that referring to yourselves as your dog's mom and dad qualifies as a faux pas of its own.

Get the &%*# Outta Here, 2019

In addition to blogging about holiday gift ideas ( find here ),  I'm jumping on the end-of-year collage bandwagon. 2019 was a struggle. Although there were many good times, like traveling to  Australia  and San Antonio, adopting Olive , attending wine festivals , and even buying a '73 Corvette (which needs lots of work - ask me in 2020 if I'd still consider this a positive), the last few months have hit me hard with the sudden death of Pica *, my grandma passing away, and my best friend overdosing herself into a coma. In the midst of all this, my longtime coworker quit without notice. And it seems like everyone is having a baby, which shouldn't bother me but it does.  Ugh, change. *Pica and I were just sitting on the couch together. She got up, went to the next room, and died. I still can't believe it. I'm trying to stay optimistic about 2020. Hey, it's the roaring twenties! We have a trip to Washington, DC booked and plans to build a lake hous

Blog Hop Alert! Share Your Favorite Posts

It's time for another Not "Baaad" Sundays linky party! Discover some nifty new sites and share all your week's adventures. After that, be sure to check out Pica and Biscuit's cute Halloween costume idea. Dressing up for Halloween works better when your dog isn't afraid of their costume. And, of course, if you could share my blog hop button, I would be much obliged!

Eating Our Way Through Alaska

Sexy Nerd and I spent last week as guests on the Holland America Oosterdam, sailing roundtrip from Seattle with stops in Juneau, Sitka, Ketchikan, and Victoria. By the way, the name of the cruise ship is pronounced like 'Oh-sterdam', not 'Awst-erdam', like we'd been telling everyone. Whoops! We're cruiseaholics. This was our 8th cruise in the 5 years since we got married. The first thing I did when we got back home? Kiss Pica and Biscuit and look online for new cruise deals. The best part of taking a cruise? The food!! Here is how each day typically went: 8:30am - 9:30am : Breakfast in the main dining room My everyday order was juice, coffee, a chocolate croissant or two, an English muffin, a greek yogurt fruit parfait, a sliced banana with blueberries and, depending on how hungry I was, an omelet with all the fixings, french toast with strawberries, and/or a breakfast sandwich. The waiter would usually suggest I get some ham, bacon, and hash browns

Bad News! Construction Weeks 2 and 3

Everything went so smoothly during our first week of construction, clearing trees and dirt faster than we'd imagined, that we began to expect the entire process would be much easier than everyone had said. People have been voicing their concerns to us ever since we purchased our lot. Clearly, though, everyone else was wrong. Ha! First, the good: (Keeping with the theme of our last two weeks of construction, this part is brief.) Five years in, we finally brought Pica and Biscuit to see their future home. After many attempts to get them both to look at the camera, this was our second best result. Small dogs = small attention spans. Close enough.  Thus ends the "good" portion of this construction update. On to the bad. Oh, it's so bad. GIANT ROCKS!!! (Oh no!)  There were barely any rocks found during the first week of construction, but with only a small section of earthwork to go, the crew hit rock, rock, and more rock. Special equip
