Amerisleep AS3 Reviews

My Amerisleep AS3 Unboxing Video (Surprise, my voice is ridiculous!) If I can (just barely) do it, you can totally tackle a bed-in-a-box by yourself. Updated 10/15/22 Amerisleep's AS5 was recently featured as the 'Best Soft Mattress in a Box' by Good Housekeeping , with the panel of reviewers noting: Pressure relief for side sleepers Taller than other boxed mattresses Good customer service    Amerisleep Mattress Reviews  We've been happy Amerisleep customers since purchasing our first AS3 mattress more than 9 years ago. Now we also have an AS2 and an AS4 (the AS3 is still our favorite). Born with chronic insomnia  (even as a baby - my family insists I was a nightmare), the struggle to improve my sleep is my life. My husband, the overly-analytical mechanical engineer, was initially skeptical of a mail-order mattress, but he was quickly won over. 2012: Wine glass test, sans wine. I was fairly confident our brand-new mattress would pass with f

Three Trips to the Vet

One of our 4 rescue dogs , Bernadette, likes to launch herself over the rose bushes and through the trees as fast as possible. The branches usually just break away.   Usually.  This time, a branch took a chunk out of her side. Posted before the drama: Hopefully your weekend is less expensive than mine. We just got home from the vet. All is well, but my wallet hurts. Here's Bernadette after having her temperature taken and being told she has buns of steel. After the thermometer thing, Bernadette didn't want to make eye contact. (Side note: If you're in NM, you can't beat Canyon Crossroads. Their veterinarian, Dr. Janeen Counts, is wonderful! You can tell she loves animals. I joke about the cost, but they're actually quite reasonably priced.) Posted after the drama: You know how we went to the vet? Well, we almost went again. We returned home and found a shirt to cover Bernadette's staples so she wouldn't mess with them. She actually seemed to enjoy wearing it

Blond! Blond! Blond! Hair Color

Remember the other day, when I accidentally (well, technically Sexy Nerd accidentally) dyed my hair gray ? I couldn't go around as a 27-year-old with white, X-Men highlights, so I made an appointment to have my hair color corrected. I've toyed around with the idea of going from brunette to blond many times, as well as the notion of adding bangs. As long as I was paying for a fancy pants hair salon, why not just do both? Presenting Kitty Deschanel, the blond siren! Hubba, hubba, right? Who's fancy? I am! Yeah, I think I'm pretty hot stuff right now. I do have one very important bit of brunette to blond hair dying info for you though... ... ... ... ... GOTCHA! Why would I dye my hair blond when everyone knows brunettes rule?  For Halloween this year, I'm going to use this wig to dress up as my friend Marie, who has the exact same hair.  Now, let's have more fun with that blond wig! Pica

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Copycat Recipe

Since Sexy Nerd had to work yesterday, while I got to lounge around the house, I thought it would be nice if he came home to some tasty doughnuts. I found the recipe here . Oooh, ingredients!   The first step was to "scald" 1 cup of milk. I'm not sure that this actually made any difference whatsoever. Next, the butter. Yummy. Melt, darn you!   Once the milk was thoroughly scalded, (pfft!) it was time to cool it down. Thank goodness for YouTube when waiting for your originally cold milk to cool back down. Go Britney! Beat some eggs.  Sift some flour. Ooh, that falling flour is beautiful! It's a pity that the sifter is covered in water spots. Get everything mixed nicely.   The original Recipezaar recipe resulted in dough that was much too sticky to work with. Adding additional flour fixed the problem. But how was I going to get these doughnuts to look doughnuty? Sexy Nerd & I don't have any cookie cutters. Seriously! Clever? Oh yes!

Stealthy Valentine's Sneakiness

Another rerun here on the ol' blog? Yeah. I was secretly on vacation before, gallivanting all over California (no exaggeration - we went from north to south and back again) and was too busy devouring all the free Marriott breakfasts (cinnamon raisin toast!) to buckle down and write a new blog post. And now that I'm back? There was a terrible, awful, worst-thing-ever traumatic incident that happened during my getaway and now whenever I sit down to write about it (or just sit down to read a magazine or just sit down), I'm overcome with sadness and tears. People you think will always be in your life will shatter your heart. (Not SN, by the way. I should probably clarify that. He has been great.) So, for now, I'm sharing a Valentine's Day rerun from 2013: This morning, I was startled awake by the sound of Pica and Biscuit barking. They bark at everyone, including us, but at just after 7am, I should have been home alone. Sexy Nerd would have been at work for almost an

It's Time For a Walk - Funny Puppy Videos

After years of enjoyment from Pica Hates the Train , which still makes us laugh, we wondered if little Olive would ever have a hilarious video of her own. We didn't have to wait long. 10-week-old Olive VS grouchy ol'  Biscuit : Olive is such a silly weirdo. After she drags Biscuit on a walk, she's going to eat your foot with those super sharp puppy teeth. Watch out! For some reason, this plays in an adorable loop on my Facebook , but only an awkward single time on my blog. 4/7/20 Update: We have added another puppy to our pack! Isn't Bernadette cute?

Why You Shouldn't Feed Your (BAD) Dogs Scraps

Go away! Shoo! This is our dinner! Not Pica's dinner! Not Biscuit's dinner! OUR DINNER! Move it, punks! One day, after Sexy Nerd & I have tripped over one of the dogs and fallen down the stairs to our deaths, people will look back at this post. They'll see the way the dogs have us surrounded; the way Biscuit is silently lurking behind Sexy Nerd, anxiously waiting for him to take an unsteady step backward, to his doom. Avenge us.

Our Garden in the NM Mountains

We've come a long way from the barren, post-construction wasteland of dirt we had a few years ago. Actually, it was even worse than it sounds. Dirt had to be hauled in and it was full of thorny weeds that spread everywhere. We've (okay, just my husband and his tractor) worked hard and our yard looks better than it ever has. Sexy Nerd is a landscaping pro! You know, in addition to being a beer brewer, Corvette restorer, woodworker, grill master, mechanical engineer, and installer of tile, wallpaper murals , and little cuts of wood that I insist he glue to our ceiling (photo below). I think I'll keep him around. Our Sandia Park, NM garden improves every year. I can't wait to see what everything looks like in 2023! Surprisingly, our plants have only had a minor impact on our water usage. Through supplementation with rain barrels, choosing native and drought-tolerant plants, and by locating plants so that they are out of the sun during the hottest parts of the day, our wate
