Amerisleep AS3 Reviews

My Amerisleep AS3 Unboxing Video (Surprise, my voice is ridiculous!) If I can (just barely) do it, you can totally tackle a bed-in-a-box by yourself. Updated 10/15/22 Amerisleep's AS5 was recently featured as the 'Best Soft Mattress in a Box' by Good Housekeeping , with the panel of reviewers noting: Pressure relief for side sleepers Taller than other boxed mattresses Good customer service    Amerisleep Mattress Reviews  We've been happy Amerisleep customers since purchasing our first AS3 mattress more than 9 years ago. Now we also have an AS2 and an AS4 (the AS3 is still our favorite). Born with chronic insomnia  (even as a baby - my family insists I was a nightmare), the struggle to improve my sleep is my life. My husband, the overly-analytical mechanical engineer, was initially skeptical of a mail-order mattress, but he was quickly won over. 2012: Wine glass test, sans wine. I was fairly confident our brand-new mattress would pass with f

Who's Up For Some Peacock Lovin'?

Sexy Nerd and I spent Friday morning at the Albuquerque Zoo* (you know, the one notorious for dismembered giraffes and break-ins by idiots ). There was a small group of women with their young children walking ahead of us when we crossed paths with a few peacocks. Hey baby. One woman began to explain to her children that the male peacock is the one with the beautiful feathers, which he uses to attract a mate. Normal enough. The other woman, however, jumped in very enthusiastically and said: "If I were a peacock, I'd just find that guy irresistible! Really, he's even turning me on as a human!"  At what age do kids begin to realize how embarrassing their parents are? Lookin' sexy, Mr. Peacock! *I should point out that, despite the negative links, Sexy Nerd and I love the zoo. We even joined their yearly pass program. You just can't beat the people-watching!

Sing A Ma Jigs. Really?

It's 3:49am and I can't sleep. What to do? Check out the Toys R Us Hot Toy List 2010, of course. What is the hot toy for 2010? Sadly, there are no Tamagotchis or Furbys this year. Instead, they predict that all the kids are going to want this: Behold: The Sing A Ma Jig I don't have kids so I know I'm not the ideal Sing A Ma Jig (Sing-a-ma-jig?) audience, and I probably shouldn't say this because it's a kid's toy, but really? Sing A Ma Jigs? Sing A Ma Jigs. It looks like a blow-up doll for stuffed animals. Am I the only one who thinks this?

OH NO! Is Kitty Deschanel Still Alive?

Sure, there have been many posts since I told you I may have tetanus (and, even worse, that I needed a SHOT!) but for all you know, those posts may have been pre-scheduled and my funeral was actually last week. Fear not, for I am alive! As of September 20th, at least. I can hear your sighs of relief all across the internet. I summoned my courage and went to Walgreens for a tetanus shot. Guess what? It was easy peasy! Heck, I even thought about asking for a flu shot while I was there.  Ultimately, I decided against it because it would have been denied by my insurance. (Okay, because I'm a big wimpy wimp.) Like my BandAid? I am so tough. Really though, it was easy, and it was completely worth it for the peace of mind. Even better, at my insistence, Sexy Nerd took me to McDonalds afterward! Ice Cream AND McDoubles? Score! What's wrong with Sexy Nerd, you ask? Did the vaccine send me into an arm-punching rage? It seems the love of my life, who had come a

15 Minute Pizza Dough

Here is the link for the quickest, easiest pizza dough ever: Clicky Here We made this tonight. We added herbs to the dough, (parsley, oregano, garlic powder, basil, and onion salt,) and topped our pizza with frozen spinach, parmesan and mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, green onions, crushed red pepper, and garlic. We rolled out the dough as thin as possible and poked lots of tiny holes in it with a fork, to prevent air bubbles. "No photo", you ask? Nope, the 6 serving pizza was gone before I could grab the camera.

Not "Baaad" Sundays - 2nd One EVER (omg!!)

Gosh darn it! Earlier, I scheduled this to post today at 5pm. I just got home from serving at my boss's Yom Kippur party and discovered, close to midnight, that it was marked as "draft". Aaargh! Anyhoo, here is my ever-so-slightly belated post: Welcome back, my bloggy friends, to the second Not "Baaad" Sundays Linky Party! In case you've forgotten, (can't blame you - it's been a looooong week!) there are 2 things that makes my Linky special: 1. This Linky is open to all posts that you are proud of. Did you recently post about a great decorating project, craft, or recipe? That's wonderful if you did, but just fine if you didn't. I just want you to link to a post or posts you are proud of. 2. Do you ever find yourself trying not to duplicate posts on blog hops but aren't quite sure what you posted the previous weeks? Problem solved! The Linky from today will return next week, making it easy to see what you posted last time (and gi

Thank You, Thank You (SITS Repost)

B logging hasn't seemed very worthwhile the last few days. After all, I thought, does anyone actually read this? I'm not writing this for money. There are zillions of better blogs out there. No one clicks my crappy ads or posts my button (it's too darn big!) or nominates me for a BlogHer award or to be featured on SITS or follows me, and why would they? Kitty Deschanel sucks! There are more productive things I could be doing, like working on that book I've been trying to write since...well...too long ago to admit.  My house is trashed, (Sexy Nerd's beer brewing doesn't help) my head is congested from allergies, (I hate New Mexico sooo much right now!) and we had an insanely busy/short-handed week at work (spring break at a pediatric dental office is not fun, especially when 2 of the 4 other employees call in because of horrible family emergencies). I was ready to let Kitty Deschanel sit idle for a few days (weeks? months?). Then, I signed on and read this co

What Jack Russel Terriers do best: Pica hates the train. Me? I just hate the blue carpet.   Oh, Pica!

Not "Baaad" Sundays - The Premier

Welcome, my bloggy friends, to the first (and hopefully not the last!) Not "Baaad" Sundays Linky Party! I know what you're thinking. There are already a zillion blog hops out there, Lamb! What makes yours so special? I'll tell you what makes mine special. 2 things! 1. The Linky from today will return next week, making it easy to see what you posted last time (and giving you a 2nd chance to visit any great posts you may have missed!) Doesn't this sound like fun? Of couse, I do ask that you link directly to your post and include a photo from that post , not

What's for Dinner? Del Taco Salad!

With so many choices, it's hard to know if the Del Taco Salad is worth your money and your calories. Here's my unbiased, detailed review (with photos). Del Taco has a tasty new option, the Handcrafted Ensalada, which I guess is Del Taco talk for salad. Del Taco Salad  There are 3 flavors to choose from: Taco Salad (TS), Chicken Bacon Avocado (CB), and Mexican Chopped Chicken (MC). What could the PR on this sticker mean? (Truth be told, I knew what the PR meant the other day, when I took this photo. At least, I think I knew it. I'm sure I knew it! What was it??) Chicken Bacon Avocado Salad, including a side of tortilla chips. That was a nice surprise! There was supposed to be a side of Cilantro Pepita Ranch, but my Albuquerque Del Taco forgot to include it. You'd think I'd have learned to check my order after the Bacon Quesadilla debacle , but sadly no. Oh, Pepita Ranch! Could that be the PR stands for? They didn't shy away from t

Recovering from Crown Lengthening Surgery

This feels like a good weekend for relaxing in bed, eating soft foods, and catching up on The Simpsons. Remember a few months ago when I was opposed to having crown lengthening surgery? I had the *awesome* dental procedure performed yesterday. They removed the gum and the bone from around 6 teeth - more bone than they were expecting! You can see some of the stitches. Yay! Really though, I'm just being dramatic. It went totally fine and I haven't even needed a single one of my prescriptions painkillers. The worst part was being able to hear the procedure. There's something...unnerving about listening to someone scraping your bone away. Still, I think the results are going to look amazing. I love my new, adult-size teeth! And, yes, they're all icky and brownish right now (even more so since the photo above was taken.) The post-surgery prescription mouthwash I have to take is brutal. It HATES white teeth!

Fear of Shots...and Tetanus

I have to go in for a tetanus shot. I have a huge scratch on my arm that was full of dirt and it bled and I absolutely have to go. Well, really I should go in, just to be on the safe side. I've been putting it off since Monday, hoping there would be no need for it, but now I've been having weird, random headaches. I'm not a headachey person and I read that it's an early sign of tetanus (you know, when I was trying to get Dr. Google to assure me that I did not need a tetanus shot. He didn't. Bastard!) Realistically, my headaches are probably from being so worried about either having tetanus or getting a shot. I should get the shot just for the peace of mind. It's been about 15 years since my last one. I'm such a wimp though! Seriously, I may very well pass out on the office floor when they pull out the needle. Sexy Nerd says he'll come in and hold my hand (but only after I insisted that he do! Bastard!) He also is going to take me to McDonalds for an i

Baby Taped to Wall (But Why?!)

I could totally see Sexy Nerd doing this if we had a baby. Honestly though, I would probably be cheering him on. Also, I've read online that some folks are outraged by this photo, thinking the baby is being abused. To me though, the baby looks well supported, as if it is in a bouncy chair, and none of the duct tape is touching bare skin. I honestly think this was just intended to be a funny photo. It's not like the parents taped their baby to the wall so they could go out drinking and partying in a cocaine-fueled hysteria. I doubt anyone on cocaine could even achieve this. This photo is from 2010, maybe earlier. Wouldn't it be great to interview this older child one day? It's time to get on that, People Magazine. The internet wants to know what happened to the duct tape baby! Baby Taped to Wall Poor ducky. Enjoy this post? Please be sure to check out my  Amerisleep Mattress Reviews  page as well, which is my most popular blog post of all time.

Blue Bell Ice Cream

Let's play a little label game. At the recommendation of my coworkers, I decided to try Blue Bell ice cream . It was okay. One particular ingredient seems very odd to me though. See if you can guess which one. According to the column on the left, Bluebell ice cream uses only the freshest and finest ingredients money can buy. They also "mix in a little love." The result? Partially hydrogenated soybean oil and high fructose corn syrup, just the way Grandma used to make it. I can forgive the long list of colorings and artificial flavors, but...an ingredient breakdown for almonds? Almonds are just almonds! Aren't they? Why are you adding partially hydrogenated oil (AKA trans fat) to your almonds, Blue Bell ice cream? I don't think I'll be buying Blue Bell ice cream again in the future. Made with loving care indeed. For Label Game 1, please click here . For folks who prefer their ice cream without gross additives, here's a quick, easy recipe for Pe

He Built a Bed...Then Destroyed the Bedroom

A few years ago, Sexy Nerd and I spent 3 weeks apart while my mom and I visited family in the Seychelles. Although he made it seem like he didn't want me to leave, Sexy Nerd was secretly looking forward to it. He had a surprise planned. For years, I had wanted to buy a pretty new bed, just like this one: Unfortunately, being a full-time student and working as a Pizza Hut manager didn't leave me with any money to actually buy a bed. Sexy Nerd was also a poor college student. What to do, right? Build a bed, of course! It took up the entire bedroom in our rental house! Of course, we have since moved into our own house and our tastes have changed. Want to guess where I am heading with this? Fear not, my bloggy friends. Although the photo above looks like a hopeless mess, our bedroom remodel is actually close to finished (with more photos coming soon!) One of the last steps is to sand down this ginormous bed and restain it a dark brown. *Ugh!* We're qui

Because White Doors Are No Fun

When we remodeled our kitchen, we painted the door to the laundry room with chalkboard paint. Let me tell you, if you don't have a chalkboard in your house, you are missing out! It is so much fun to write wacky messages together! The paint was a little tricky to obtain. They keep it locked up at Lowes , where I suppose it will be safe from all those elementary school teachers with bad intentions. We can only hope, right? Biscuit mostly speaks Spanish.   It's a long story. Christmas in August? Sure, why not! Cartoon Sexy Nerd never leaves home without his trusty Pocket Protector Neither of us speaks Spanish, (other than a few phrases we remember from college) but the phrases are supposed to say something about our dog Biscuit hiding under the safety of the table and searching for her turtle. If our online translator can be believed, it does.   Note that Pica is shedding profusely, like usual. She does not speak Spanish and is just mocking

FULL OF &%*#%^@* RAGE!!!

My message to the Albuquerque division of police misconduct: This morning, I was the victim of police misconduct. I was pulled over for the first time in my life, shortly after leaving my home. As I approached the flashing school zone lights of John Baker Elementary on Comanche, officer J. Hunt stepped into the crosswalk. At first, I thought he was assisting the children who were ready to cross the street. He held his hand out for me to stop, which seemed strange because I was very far from the crosswalk, then he motioned for me to drive forward. I was baffled! I moved closer, then stopped to let the children cross, but he motioned me forward again. I approached, confused by what he was doing, as he seemed to be motioning for me to continue through the crosswalk but did not move out of my way. It was creating a very dangerous situation for the crowd of children that had gathered to cross! I rolled down my window and was told to pull over for speeding - quite a shock as he had b
