Ramblings and Best in Show

1. The word Sexy Nerd was referring to in his recent, ridiculous Quote of the Day was flexitarian. Oh! Sadly, it took me over a week to think of this.

2. I've researched and researched and have my heart set on the Canon EOS Rebel T1i. It's on sale at Target right this very moment. I called all 6 stores in our area (okay, so Santa Fe and Rio Rancho are not technically our area, though Target.com says otherwise) and there is only ONE left anywhere. Why aren't I on my way this instant? In my pre-Sexy Nerd days, I wouldn't have thought twice about going out at 9pm. The store is open for almost another whole hour! He's such a worrier. He doesn't even think I should try to go before work tomorrow because I might get stuck in traffic and be late. Sheesh!

3. I'm going to go before work anyway. Think positive thoughts for me and my fellow Albuquerque drivers (an ideal thought would be that they all stay home!)

4. Choosing a handful of Best in Show nominees is a tough job. Did you see all those Not "Baaad" links? They're all so magnificent! Methinks I may have gotten in over my head here. This week's nominees are TBD.

5. I've been enjoying Anne of Green Gables on CD, which I checked out from the library. I had never read the book, but I have been to Prince Edward Island and really should have at least researched it before my trip. I must say, books on CD are the way to go. I highly recommend Anne of Green Gables, but even more highly I recommend the CD for A Confederacy of Dunces. You'll laugh so hard that your commute will just melt away. There is one problem with checking out books on CD from the library though, at least here in Albuquerque:

The books on CD are for everyone! Can we please learn to take care of things, Albuquerque? The CD skipped so badly that I have no idea what happened in the haunted woods. And how, may I ask, did mud get onto the CD?

I really hope it's mud...Now, onto the nominees!

Flooring Ideas

Ever since we purchased our 13.1 acre (gotta get credit for that extra 0.1 acre!) lot outside of Albuquerque last year, Sexy Nerd and I have devoted most of our free time to planning our mountain dream home. We cannot make a decision about a nything . At this point, it seems our best option would be to build a row of townhomes , each in a completely different style. On Monday, we would live in our colorful Victorian home, and later in the week we could switch things up in our ultra-contemporary, all concrete house. Since I can't imagine our neighborhood HOA (or our budget) ever allowing such a thing, we really do need to narrow down our list of ideas. Flooring is a tough choice. In our current home, we have premium laminate flooring. It stands up well against our rambunctious dogs, but is easily damaged if you unknowingly drip water onto it and let it sit, like by the dog's water bowl and the dishwasher. Our Dream Home

We've finally broken ground on our dream home ! Can you believe it? (You can follow our construction progress here , along with lots of construction drama - the neighbors building their fence on our property, discovering we'd placed our house on a bunch of expensive rocks, our concrete footings being destroyed by a freak hail storm, etc.) Even more surprising than finally building the house we've dreamed of for years, we actually managed to work a good chunk of our ridiculous wish list into the actual design. *Update* Construction is finished! My Instant Pot Explosion!

Like many new Instant Pot owners, I've wondered, How many Instant Pots have exploded? (Eeek!) I'm happy to report that my research on Snopes and other sites has shown that these do not explode, at least not when used properly. There is a lawsuit between a woman in Texas and the Instant Pot manufacturer, but she admits she had thrown a towel over the steam vent. Do NOT do this. Still concerned? Consider that on Prime Day of 2018, Amazon sold more than 300,000 Instant Pots. That's more than a quarter of a million sales in only 1 day! If these things were not safe, you would see news stories every day about someone being injured. Still, things can go wrong. We love our Instant Pot, the digital pressure cooker that seems to suddenly be in every home. You can't mess up - just throw in random ingredients and you'll get something yummy every time. Hello Fresh Complaints

Hello, my bloggy friends. I have a HelloFresh complaint and believe they are pulling a scam. Yours truly came *this close* to falling for it. Maybe scam is too harsh of a word. Sneaky? You can decide for yourself. The fact that there are so many Hello Fresh complaints online does seem suspicious. My main complaint about Hello Fresh has to do with their promotional rate, which seems like it is set up to be intentionally misleading (more on this below). Despite so many people complaining about being charged more than they thought they'd agreed to, Hello Fresh maintains this as part of their business model and continues to mislead. So it's intentional, right? I do not recommend Hello Fresh. For starters, the service is just ingredients-by-mail with recipes, not meals. You can buy your own ingredients for much less, especially now that most grocery stores conveniently offer pickup and delivery. Excellent recipes are easy to find.
