10 Decorating Ideas for Your Cozy Mountain Home

Here are more design ideas from the Summit County Parade of Homes . Enjoy! 1. Windows that go all the way down to the countertop (or countertops/desks/tables that come all the way up to the bottom of the window) look amazing. Stretching the window wall to wall is even better. Update: When building our dream home in the NM mountains, our builder explained that this does cost a bit more, as it requires very specific framing to make sure everything lines up perfectly. 2. Frame square cubbies right into the drywall for a modern bookcase. When we build our dream home next year, I'd like to do something similar but with wood on the bottom of each shelf. Or stone. Or maybe a bright, fun color painted onto the back of each cubby - a different one in each square.  Our poor builder doesn't know what he's gotten himself into. 3. For maximum impact, you need many, MANY pendant lights. 4. Have a little nook/hallway? Don't just leave it plain and boring. A lit...

Spring Decorating Ideas

Update: We've (and by that I mean Sexy Nerd solely on his own) been transforming our home little by little. I never post photos though! It's weird because I was really looking forward to being able to share our decorating progress, back while we were designing the house for all those years. So let's do this! I'll at least post by the time we have our this-never-happens April snowstorm that happens every single year, shocking everyone for no reason at all. Original: You may not be able to visit our home right now (you'd totally be here if not for COVID-19, right?), but here are a few photos with spring decorating ideas to enjoy. Decorating projects currently in process? Tiling the walls (and groin ceiling!) of our dining room with mother of pearl in a herringbone pattern. We're also working on a backsplash for our outdoor kitchen - the mos...

SN and I recently had the pleasure of attending the ARTsmart Art of Home tour in Santa Fe . Sponsored by Keller Williams Realty, it's an annual, free event that combines art from local galleries with luxury homes for sale. This year, the event fell on the same weekend as Santa Fe Restaurant Week, pairing two of my greatest loves, houses and food. How could we possibly resist? If you're considering visiting New Mexico, be sure to add the ARTsmart Art of Home tour and Santa Fe Restaurant Week to your travel itinerary, if at all possible. We always drive up from Albuquerque for the Santa Fe Parade of Homes every summer, even though we think it's overpriced...but maybe not anymore because this was so much better. At one of the homes, we were thanked because attending this event supports local school children...but probably only if you buy some artwork, right? And...we didn't.  You know what will help set things right though? An awesome blog post to spread the word for...
