Taos Summer Wine Festival 2018

We are counting down the days until the luxurious 2018 Taos Summer Wine Festival. Less than 3 hours from Albuquerque, it was easily the most fun event SN and I attended in 2017, which included adventures in New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Utah, and Texas, and we've been looking forward to the next one ever since. Heck, I'm already looking forward to Taos Wine, 2019! Plus, we will soon know if they decided to go with my poster submission:

 The event organizers (shoutout to the amazing Cecilia Cuff) have provided two free Saturday passes for me to give away to a lucky blog reader. Think of it as winning...

The Saturday schedule for the Taos Summer Wine Festival is jam-packed with fun activities, including yoga (with wine and chocolate!) and hot air balloon rides (at no extra charge!). I keep thinking that the hot air balloon rides must have an extra fee because, really, who gives away free hot air balloon rides? The price of just a hot air balloon ride on its own would cost as much as the wine festival admission! The event is pretty much all-inclusive though.

      • An interactive dinner through the Ski Valley. Make your way around to the Hondo Restaurant at the Snakedance, Blonde Bear at Edelwiess and 192 at The Blake. Eat a course with a perfectly paired glass of wine at each. (Gratuity is included.)

    • Stargazing with the largest telescope in NM

The kids would be afraid of the roasted pig. Come to think of it, I don't recall seeing very many kids last year. I'll update this when I find out for sure, but for now, I think the lunch is probably held at The Bavarian Lodge restaurant.)(Update: It's not a typo!)

Fun, right? Rumor has it there will also be horseback riding (with an additional fee) and a tea pairing class. The inaugural 2017 Taos Summer Wine Festival was a top contender for the Best Food Event award from Edible Magazine and I expect this year to be even bigger and better. And don't worry about driving. There are many affordable, top-rated lodging options within walking distance of the festival.

Hello Fresh Complaints

Hello, my bloggy friends. I have a HelloFresh complaint and believe they are pulling a scam. Yours truly came *this close* to falling for it.  Maybe scam is too harsh of a word. Sneaky? You can decide for yourself. The fact that there are so many Hello Fresh complaints online does seem suspicious. Update:  Google is totally filling my site with Hello Fresh ads now, ugh. Also, since posting this  Hello Fresh complaints  article yesterday, I've already received this message from a reader: "I did order from Hello Fresh previously and was not charged what I was originally told (or thought I was told). Also, the food from them was anything but fresh and they refused to do a refund, only doing credit - even for the overcharges! So basically I ended up being out of money thanks to them." My main complaint about Hello Fresh has to do with their promotional rate, which seems like it is set up to be intentionally misleading (more on this below). Despite so many people complainin

My Instant Pot Explosion!

Like many new Instant Pot owners, I've wondered, How many Instant Pots have exploded?  (Eeek!) I'm happy to report that my research on Snopes and other sites has shown that these do not explode, at least not when used properly. There is a lawsuit between a woman in Texas and the Instant Pot manufacturer, but she admits she had thrown a towel over the steam vent. Do NOT do this.  Still concerned? Consider that on Prime Day of 2018, Amazon sold more than 300,000 Instant Pots. That's more than a quarter of a million sales in only 1 day! If these things were not safe, you would see news stories every day about someone being injured. Still, things can go wrong. We love our Instant Pot, the digital pressure cooker that seems to suddenly be in every home. You can't mess up - just throw in random ingredients and you'll get something yummy every time.
