$3 Dining Room Chairs

Sexy Nerd and I have been looking for new chairs for a while. My old Ashley Furniture glass dining table and metal chairs from college just weren't right in our new house. However, as the old dining set cost $200 for the table and 4 chairs, I was having trouble justifying $100 or so per chair for replacements. So, the glass table is now being used as a desk in my office, Sexy Nerd refinished an old dining room table to match our style, and the old chairs received a much-needed update, courtesy of a $3 can of burgundy spray paint (which looks pink when photographed, for some reason).

Now to find cheap upholstery fabric that looks awesome!

And learn how to reupholster a chair!

And sew more of that upholstery fabric into matching curtains! And sand/paint those yucky cabinet doors! And rearrange all the furniture! And find 2 more chairs that will look good with these because we want to seat 6! And build a window seat in the dining room!

Ah, good times.

  1. That's the Way!!!!! Awesome great job Sexy Nerd!

  2. That's what HGTV is for!! I have learned so much from that channel. I'm all about making something old, new again. I love the chairs -- big fan of burgundy. Looks great!

  3. I might be asking for your help in a few months when I want to do something with my chairs!~

  4. Ooo! I did that once. I found cloth napkins in a fabric I loved. To recover the seats, all I had to do was unscrew the seat from the frame on the bottom. I wrapped the napkins over the top and used a staple gun to secure them on the bottom. Cheap? Yes. But it held, and they looked really great!

  5. so cute! i'm hunting for new fabric for my dining room chairs too, i have a vintage dark wood set my parents gave us and they need a little classing up!

  6. Staple guns are so much fun!! I recovered my chairs a few years ago, thanks to the husband and the cat they are in need of new covers...

  7. Consider a bench for additional Dining Room seating - you can find something plain, paint it the same burgandy and add a foam cushion if needed.

  8. Well, I looked up the red chairs you told me about, and I think they look much better! Have you found great fabric for them yet?
I am busy doing two chairs at the moment, too, and my gosh, it is not as easy as it looks.... Not these, anyway!

  14. In a custom store you can order any pieces of a sectional
we want thus if we only want the armless pieces that is totally possible.
They should additionally be able to help you with the "lock" mechanisms to hold the
pieces together. We could order them whenever I worked in custom stores thus I know they are available.
