Holiday Roses and Bouqs Review

Such a pretty dining room, but something is missing...

I have something to add to my list of Christmas gift ideas. It's an idea that can be sent to your friends and family near and far, or ordered for yourself if you're having company over. There's actually still time to have it delivered by Christmas, if you can believe that!

This holiday season, I had a little surprise for my Sexy Nerd.

No one had ever sent him flowers before!

Biscuit was very jealous.

But she was still better off than Pica, who was banished to the opposite side of the doggie gate for constantly being underfoot.

(Seriously, she's going to break my neck one of these days!)

I went with a bouquet called "Fortified", which contained a dozen long-stemmed red/yellow roses.

How could I resist flowers that match our decor?

The answer: I couldn't.

The flowers were delivered by mail from theBouqs.com, which grew them on a volcano.

I'd never seen rose petals that start out yellow and fade to red. How did theBouqs.com do that?

The vase they're in was given to me by my awesome boss. She had been using it as a water pitcher and asked if I wanted it. Of course I wanted it.

The handle is a horse!

When guests came over, they thought the roses were fake at first and couldn't believe they were real. They'd never seen anything like these!

Admiring my clean and tidy house? Good, because it's one of the few times over the past 8 or so years that it has looked like this.

It even smelled clean (and delicious!) courtesy of some homemade hot apple cider. It was exactly what the house needed to banish the doggy funk.

With a bottle of pinot noir (Sexy Nerd's favorite) thrown in, I scored some serious points!

Now, here are more photos of my clean house to enjoy. My plan is to revisit this blog post each time the house is a disaster (rather than, you know, actually doing any sort of tidying up.)

Ooh, I nearly forgot! Normally, I'm not a big fan of spending money on flowers (no matter how high the quality, they're just going to die, right?) but my roses from theBouqs.com were an especially good deal because of how well they matched my decor. Two weeks after receiving them, I turned them into the most beautiful, lovely-scented potpourri ever!

Flooring Ideas

Ever since we purchased our 13.1 acre (gotta get credit for that extra 0.1 acre!) lot outside of Albuquerque last year, Sexy Nerd and I have devoted most of our free time to planning our mountain dream home. We cannot make a decision about a nything . At this point, it seems our best option would be to build a row of townhomes , each in a completely different style. On Monday, we would live in our colorful Victorian home, and later in the week we could switch things up in our ultra-contemporary, all concrete house. Since I can't imagine our neighborhood HOA (or our budget) ever allowing such a thing, we really do need to narrow down our list of ideas. Flooring is a tough choice. In our current home, we have premium laminate flooring. It stands up well against our rambunctious dogs, but is easily damaged if you unknowingly drip water onto it and let it sit, like by the dog's water bowl and the dishwasher. Our Dream Home

We've finally broken ground on our dream home ! Can you believe it? My Instant Pot Explosion!

Like many new Instant Pot owners, I've wondered, How many Instant Pots have exploded? (Eeek!) I'm happy to report that my research on Snopes and other sites has shown that these do not explode, at least not when used properly. There is a lawsuit between a woman in Texas and the Instant Pot manufacturer, but she admits she had thrown a towel over the steam vent. Do NOT do this. Still concerned? Consider that on Prime Day of 2018, Amazon sold more than 300,000 Instant Pots. That's more than a quarter of a million sales in only 1 day! If these things were not safe, you would see news stories every day about someone being injured. Still, things can go wrong. We love our Instant Pot, the digital pressure cooker that seems to suddenly be in every home. You can't mess up - just throw in random ingredients and you'll get something yummy every time. Hello Fresh Complaints

Hello, my bloggy friends. I have a HelloFresh complaint and believe they are pulling a scam. Yours truly came *this close* to falling for it. Maybe scam is too harsh of a word. Sneaky? You can decide for yourself. The fact that there are so many Hello Fresh complaints online does seem suspicious. My main complaint about Hello Fresh has to do with their promotional rate, which seems like it is set up to be intentionally misleading (more on this below). Despite so many people complaining about being charged more than they thought they'd agreed to, Hello Fresh maintains this as part of their business model and continues to mislead. So it's intentional, right? I do not recommend Hello Fresh. For starters, the service is just ingredients-by-mail with recipes, not meals. You can buy your own ingredients for much less, especially now that most grocery stores conveniently offer pickup and delivery. Excellent recipes are easy to find.
