Nigel's Good Food, Charleston

A Change in Plans Step 1: Sexy Nerd and I have way too much going on to even think about planning a vacation, so we will just browse through our photos of our trip to Savannah and Charleston last year. Step 2: Wow, that place was amazing. The food! The cute houses! The friendly people and the pretty dresses and the towering trees and the history!  Step 3: Work be darned. It's time to plan a vacation! While reaching this epiphany, it occurred to me that I said I'd share our Charleston, SC photos here on my site but never did. No biggie because I'd already sorted the ones I want to post...oh, except there are a whopping 175 to share! It really is an incredible place to visit. My 'work be darned' attitude applies to blogging too. Who has time for that when there's a vacation to plan? Here's a quick summary of our Charleston trip, as well as all 175 photos. Update: It turns out 175 photos in a single blog post is overly ambitious. Here are photos of the most im

Working Hard in Hawaii

Sexy Nerd's job requires him to travel almost every week. He flies so many places so frequently, half the time I'm not even sure where he is. I just asked him if he saw the zebra balloon in the air over Albuquerque yesterday morning and he said no. I asked if he'd seen any balloons and he said no. Incredulously, I asked how that could possibly be, as there are hot air balloons everywhere right now. He hasn't seen any balloons because he hasn't been here. Oh, right. Is Sexy Nerd in Washington D.C. this week? Napa Valley? Instead of being home, the poor guy is always stuck sleeping at a resort or dining at a gourmet steakhouse. Poor, poor Sexy Nerd. Recently, his work made him go to Hawaii. Don't you feel sooo bad for him? I hated for Sexy Nerd to feel homesick, all alone in a tropical paradise, so I tagged along. Yes, I am the best wife ever, obviously. Ted's Bakery, one of our favorite restaurants in the world. We even bought our wedding cak

Road Trips from Dallas

Image
Sexy Nerd and I are home from an impulsive trip to Texas. We brought home a car from Dallas! I'd planned to buy a 2022 Ford Mach-E, then decided to upgrade to a 2022 Jaguar I-Pace. Then I remembered that I'm a cheapskate and bought something much better. Care to guess what I bought? Fully loaded, it's quite an upgrade from my 2013 Chevy Volt , which is a terrific car for a Texas road trip, BTW. (It's totally cheating to guess if we already told you. ) The drive home from Dallas wasn't bad. The weather was really bad - ridiculous Texas winds knocked out power at the Renaissance Dallas Hotel, leaving us without water or elevator service on the 24th floor (!!!), but the drive wasn't bad. (The hotel staff did an excellent job given the circumstances outside their control, BTW. Go Marriott!) This was our first road trip from Dallas, TX to Amarillo, TX and it was fun breaking up the drive with unique stops. There were interesting trinkets to purchase and some of the

It's time for the 2021 Fall Ale Fest, now named the Fall Ale Fest and Wing Cook-Off in the Heavenly Village Lake Tahoe.  Event Details: 9/18/21 from 1 pm - 5 pm; admission is $30 per person Lake Tahoe Heavenly Village: 2021 Fall Ale Fest and Wing Cook-Off  The inaugural Fall Ale Fest was a rave success.  Heavenly Village  offered something for everyone, including shops and activities for that important time between sampling and driving home.  2019 Review Be sure to check out Part One of this post, Have You Ever Attended a 'Vertical' Progressive Meal? I want to start with a quick story. My husband and I attended a wine festival in the morning and a beer festival in the afternoon. The next day, we were walking down the hallway at our hotel and both spotted something on the floor up ahead. It was a pair of shorts. "Those are your shorts," he said. Yes, they were. I quickly gathered my discarded shorts from the communal space and returned them to our room. I may hav
